State Farm Neighborhood Assist® is a program that awards $25,000 grants to 40 different causes across the United States. The program has three phases. First, users submit causes they think deserve a $25,000 grant. Next, the State Farm Review Committee narrows down the submissions to the top 200 and pairs them with nonprofit organizations that can help make them happen. Finally, the public votes to select the top 40. Each winning cause that meets all of entry criteria will receive a $25,000 grant.
How do I submit a cause to State Farm Neighborhood Assist®?
It's simple. Just visit NeighborhoodAssist.com and click the "Submit My Cause" button. From there, you'll be asked to tell us about the cause and a little bit about yourself. Please note: we're also asking you to submit at least one photo with the cause that will be used in the public voting phase. You can submit up to 3 photos, and you'll be asked to designate one as the main photo for your submission. You must be the photographer or have permission from the photographer to allow us to use the photo in connection with the program and have permission from all persons shown in the photo. Photos should be under 5MB in one of the following formats: JPG, JPEG, or GIF. For more information about the application process and the program as a whole, check out our downloadable 2018 Submission Guide to have all of the information you need in one place.
What causes can I submit?
Feel free to submit any cause that would help improve your neighborhood in one of three areas:
Education: Education doesn't end in the classroom. From book smarts to street smarts, we're accepting causes that further education of any kind in your community.
Safety: Feel more at home by improving the safety measures in your community. From sidewalks to crosswalks, we’re accepting causes that make your neighborhood a safer place.
Community Development: Help your neighbors in your community by submitting a cause that benefits the programs and places within it.
Can I submit more than one cause?
No, because we want to try to extend the program to as many participants as possible submissions are limited to one per person. State Farm focuses its charitable donations in three areas: Safety, Education, and Community Development.
Do I need to be an existing State Farm customer to submit a cause?
Anyone who's inspired to make a difference in their community is welcome to submit a cause in one of the three categories. For more information on the official rules of Neighborhood Assist, head here.
When should I submit a cause?
The State Farm Neighborhood Assist® submission period begins at 12:00:01 am ET on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 and up to 2,000 submissions will be accepted. The submission phase will end either when the 2,000 limit is reached or by 11:59:59 pm ET on June 15, 2018, whichever comes first.
I know of a local nonprofit that supports my cause. Can I include them as part of my submission?
Of course! Just enter the name of the nonprofit you wish to nominate into the text box.
I keep trying to submit a cause, but it won't go through. What am I doing wrong?
Remember that all fields are required, so double-check to make sure all the fields are filled out properly. Please note that some parts of the "About Your Cause" form have character limits.
How many causes will be given grants?
After the causes are narrowed down to the top 200, the public will vote to determine the top 40. Those 40 that meet the Program's entry criteria will each receive a $25,000 grant.
How much money will each cause receive?
Each winning cause will receive a $25,000 grant. That grant money will be awarded to an associated nonprofit to help make the winning idea a reality.
Who will actually get the $25,000 grant?
The nonprofit that's been paired with the cause by State Farm will receive the $25,000 grant.
Why do I have to answer so many questions to submit a cause?
The State Farm Review Committee will use the information you submit to evaluate your cause. The more information they have, the easier it will be to determine which causes should be placed in the top 200.
What is the State Farm Review Committee?
The State Farm Review Committee is a group of State Farm employees who are passionate about creating positive change. The State Farm Review Committee reviews grant applications and decides where the money will have the biggest impact.
How will I know if my cause is selected for the Top 200?
Everyone who submits a cause to State Farm Neighborhood Assist® will receive a series of emails letting them know about the status of the cause they submitted. After completing your submission you'll receive a confirmation email. Then, once the top 200 are determined you’ll get an email letting you know the final status of your submission. A list of the 40 final winners will be posted on the site at 9:00:01 am ET on September 25, 2018.
Will I continue to be associated with my cause if it's selected for the Top 200?
Yes, your name will accompany the cause description once it goes to the voting round. Additionally, we hope you will stay associated with your cause by helping to recruit votes, raise awareness and get your cause to the Top 40.
What can I do to promote my cause if it's selected for the Top 200?
We encourage you to share your cause on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, inviting your friends to vote. Please include the hashtag #SFNeighborhoodAssist.
Who can submit a cause?
Anyone with an email address who is over the age of 18 and is a legal resident of the 50 United States or District of Columbia may submit a cause to State Farm Neighborhood Assist®. In the interest of fairness and accessibility and to align with the Program, causes cannot win more than two consecutive years. This would include causes that received two Neighborhood Assist grants consecutively in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Why is State Farm only accepting causes related to Safety, Education and Community Development?
At State Farm, our goal is to create positive changes in neighborhoods across the United States. We've narrowed down our efforts to these three areas in order to focus on building stronger, safer and better educated communities.
Who decides what causes receive a grant?
You do! Voters will determine which causes are selected for the Top 40, each one of which will receive a $25,000 grant to help put it into action. Voting starts at 12:00:01 am ET on Wednesday, August 15. Each person can vote up to 10 times per day during the voting period, which ends at 11:59:59pm ET on Friday, August 24, 2018. Before that happens, the State Farm Review Committee will help narrow down all of the submissions into the Top 200.
