State Farm Neighborhood Assist ® 2018

The Dragonfly House Building Hope & Healing Campaign

The mission is to build a new, customized facility to meet the needs of child abuse victims.

The Dragonfly House provides all-inclusive, child-focused services to boys and girls, ages birth through 17, who have experienced any form of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or witness to violence within Davie and Davidson Counties, NC. We are the only children's advocacy center meeting these needs within these two communities and without our agency or services, these needs would be unmet for children. Children would either have to travel out of county or not receive services at all if they experienced abuse or neglect. With our agency, we are able to quickly and efficiently address each of their needs through forensic interviews, medical exams, victim advocacy, mental health services, coordinated case reviews, and community education. All of these services are provided on-site with experts in the field of child abuse. Each of these needs are ones that are not provided by other agencies within our community.

This new facility will help us better meet each of the needs we face while providing greater comfort and care to those we serve. We are not only building a facility, we are building hope and healing for children.

The impact of this grant is measured in a way that is greater than money can provide. Providing comfort, safety, all-inclusive services, hope, and healing to children who have experienced abuse and neglect makes an impact that lasts their lifetime. We are letting children know that what happened to them does not define them. We are giving them the opportunity to receive the necessary services and support they need, which in turn gives them inner strength and healing that will help give them the greatest opportunity to become everything they want to be in their future. We help them break the cycle of abuse and learn to not carry that trauma into their adulthood. This impact is life-long and will affect their own children. The financial impact helps us pay for the construction of the facility so that we do not have to cut services to children for fear that construction costs can't be met. The lasting impact is a childhood returned after being victimized. This is immeasurable.
